Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson

Finished reading this 2 nights ago instead of doing math, but I think it was worth it. It has been some time since I cried so much over a book.

I like how it doesn't preach to me about all the big values in life. I'm not even 17 yet-I complain alot and get all angsty often, but deep down I understand that I don't really know anything about life, or about pain, hardships and suffering. But what I can feel for is a teenaged girl, with her family. And that is what Second Chance Summer offers.

This is the reason why I feel offended whenever friends criticise young adult fiction as being mindless and meaningless. To me, a fluffy, light-hearted summer beach read can be worth just as much as a thought-provoking, artsy-fartsy and award-winning novel. Even if your characters are complicated and the storyline is complex, what good is it if the reader isn't connected or interested?

Who cares if it's Norwegian Wood or the Princess Diaries? If a story can make me feel, it's good enough for me.
