comparing

We've gotten back more than half of our block test 1 papers. I think I could have done better, but we can't cry over spilt milk!

I don't see why there's a need for comparison. It irks me when parents, relatives, neighbors, frenemies, rivals, classmates, friends, and even teachers start comparing stuff, especially academic results. I mean, what's the point? Does it make you feel any better? Okay, maybe if they did worse than you, you get a cheap thrill out of it. You get instant self-gratification. But it's not like you get a prize for it, do you? And what if YOU did WORSE than THEM?! Then you'd feel lousy for the entire day, so why even do it in the first place!

That's why, the genius me refuses to pit myself against anyone else!! Focusing on myself works way better for me. I know friendly competition is supposed to serve as a motivation to spur you on, but IMO, why not just concentrate on beating yourself? That way, you don't need another person to be the indicator of your success. Your happiness doesn't depend on someone else. As long as I'm happy with what I've achieved, what others have gotten shouldn't have any impact at all. And if I'm not happy with myself, then I can safely conclude that I really have cause to be unhappy and demoralized and I need to pull up my socks ASAP.

Sometimes we get so caught up in the race to be more than one another that we tend to forget what we're working hard for in the first place. Then life becomes a jumbled heap of mess. Or maybe I'm just not competitive enough hahaha, I don't know!

I am so clever that sometimes I don’t understand a single word of what I am saying.
